Where it started

November 2017, Cité du Volcan: the Volcano Game Jam gives teams a few days to create a game on a theme heavy with history, marronage, the flight of enslaved people into the island’s mountains. How do you make players feel that escape without reducing it to a backdrop?

The approach

Tsilaosa is not a hero with defined features: he is a silhouette standing for everyone who fled. Players do not read the story, they live it: pursued, they run, jump and climb towards the heights. The Réunion Island landscape becomes the main character.

Together with Eric Castieau and Olivier Sicard, I took charge of developing the game.

What I took from it

A serious subject can be approached through play on one condition: respect. The pleasure of playing opens the door, and the meaning follows, without being forced.

A project that needs to be experienced?

Let's talk about what you need to share, and the best way to bring it to life.
